Size Chart
Fabric Requirements
Your fabric choice will influence how your final garment fits. A lighter, stretchier fabric (such as DBP) will be lighter and looser while a heavier, structured fabric (such as cotton spandex) will have a tighter, more compressive fit. Your fabric MUST contain at least 5% spandex for the garment to retain its shape.
Measurements are in yards and based on 56” wide fabric. Yardage assumes that your fabric has been prewashed and preshrunk. Extra fabric may be required for matching prints, directional fabric, or if you need to add length.
The Essential Skirts pattern requires a knit fabric with 30% horizontal stretch. Your fabric choice will influence how your final garment fits. A lighter, stretchier fabric (such as DBP) will be lighter and looser while a heavier, structured fabric (such as cotton spandex or ponte) will have a tighter fit with more compression. The encased elastic waistband can be made out of the same fabric as your skirt. Knit waistband requires a knit fabric with at least 50% stretch and excellent recovery. Keep in mind that your knit waistband fabric will need to hold up the entire weight of your skirt since there is no elastic to secure it. Another thing to keep in mind is that your waistband will need to be able to stretch over your hips. This is particularly relevant if your hip size is larger than your waist size.
