Welcome! This post provides a comprehensive overview of Rivet Patterns' sizing system. While preparing our pattern documentation, I noticed we didn't have a single, centralized resource explaining how to select the right size for your projects. Though sizing guidance is included in every pattern tutorial, I wanted to create one convenient reference that brings it all together in one place.
Let's begin with our size charts. We give measurement charts in both inches (Imperial) and centimeters (Metric).

METRIC:

Each tutorial also gives you Measuring Guide.

Those are the basics! Now, for the questions. Below, you'll find some of the most commonly asked questions, along with brief answers, and links that will guide you to more in-depth information.
- What if I don't measure into one size? Absolutely! We are all so different, it's more common to measure into more than one size than to fit perfectly in a size chart. Thankfully, though, we sew! We can grade our patterns to fit our own bodies. Check out this link on Grading a Sewing Pattern for Your Body.
- What height do you draft for? This question is a bit trickier. The short answer is 5'5"-5"6". The better, and much more accurate answer, is that even those people of 'average' height, may not have 'average' proportions. I go into this in detail in our blog post How to Lengthen or Shorten a Sewing Pattern. Another helpful post in determining correct proportions is How To Measure: Natural Waist, Side Waist, and Waist to Hip.
One of the most common adjustments necessary is for the bust. Rivet Patterns uses sewing cup sizes, just like most designers.

If you find yourself in need a full bust adjustment, or are simply interested in knowing how it's done (knit top without darts), check out this blog post with Video: How-to Full Bust Adjustment.
Did you know we have a whole Pattern Adjustment and Fitting Section on our Blog? We cover all sort of adjustments, most with videos on our YouTube Channel. Pants Fitting, Skirt Fitting, Small Bust Adjustment, Biceps, Shoulders, Backs, Tummys, OH MY!
We hope you'll take the leap to make your garments fit YOU! If you have questions, or simply want some support, PLEASE join us in our Rivet Patterns Facebook Group!. We're a friendly and helpful bunch, I promise!
Happy Making!
